Our dear Autumn Lin passed away suddenly on Monday, May 18. In true Autumn form, she and her husband, Jon, were sitting on their porch, a light breeze brushing her skin, looking up at the stars, when she died suddenly. Jeannie Hau said, “I love that she died watching where she was going to end up.”
Some of us had spoken to her a few days before, some had seen her recently, and some of us had plans to work together on an exhibition. She was always checking in on us. She was good like that. Autumn recently told Joy Ray that she wanted to create "through togetherness: making work that holds space not just for me, but for connection—with my partner, with others, with something larger than myself.” We hope we can help this spirit and her art move through people the way it moved through us.
KCL said, "Autumn Lin was a beautiful, magical person with a kind heart and an expansive, and psychedelic mind. She was a connector, an inviter, a visionary. Happy and humble and hilarious, honest, wise, and steady. She taught me a lot… and I absolutely loved hanging out with her. She was a free free free spirit, and she was an amazing artist.”
She loved every particle of life, and it was contagious; it was electric. Autumn did what Autumn wanted to do, and she did it with grace and love and kindness, and a whole lot of gummies (she loved these little gummy frogs so much). We are all in shock. But, as Erik (her amazing ex-husband) wrote us, "Autumn would not want you to mourn her death but instead celebrate her life and the beautiful memories you shared together. She was sent from the heavens to grace us with her free spirit, and now she has returned home."
We all have so much gratitude for having had this wonderful being, this lightning bolt, this fireball in our lives. Her impact on every one of us is so “yummy” (to use Autumn's words).
